Alfonso Jar

$ 55.00

We have run out of stock for this item.

Enjoy the unusual shape and the surprising finish of these jars that were made in Tonaltepec, a Mixtec community of Oaxaca whose inhabitants maintain their millenary tradition of ceramics and who share it with care. Use these to hold seeds, nuts, coffee or what ever else may come to you.

These pottery pieces are among the few in the world that use vegetable pigments for decoration. The dark brown color of the stains is achieved when, upon pulling them out of the kiln, at a temperature close to 900°C, the artisan applies an ink made from cactus and oak bark.

Container | One piece with wooden lid

8"H x 5.5"Diam

*Each piece is handmade and therefore uniquely awesome.

Treat your clay pieces lovingly and with care, they are living objects which will grow old with you. Hand wash in warm water. Not dishwasher or microwave safe. Avoid the use of sharp utensils to prevent scratching. Do not leave plates in water for more than three days, they may soften and break.
